Hello, I'm Garri
I’m an artist, designer and arts educator working at the intersection of traditional art, space design and digital media. Trained in classical arts in Ukraine, Communication Design at Parsons, and New Media at LIU Brooklyn, I’ve spent more than 20 years creating, teaching, and helping students develop confident artistic voices.
I currently teach art and design at The Kew-Forest School and lead GARO ART Studio in Brooklyn, where I specialize in portfolio development, digital–traditional hybrid practices, and inclusive studio learning.

My Background
I grew up in Tbilisi, Georgia, where art quickly became a way for me to observe, understand, and imagine beyond my surroundings. Encouraged by my parents, I studied in formal after-school art programs, and by age ten my drawings were published in the Soviet children’s book Against War. This early experience affirmed how powerful visual storytelling could be.
At fourteen, I entered art school and later continued my studies in Kharkov, where classical training and exposure to both Russian masters and the avant-garde shaped my foundational approach. The curiosity of artists like Leonardo da Vinci—his fascination with light, motion, and transformation—continues to influence my work and my teaching.
Immigrating to the United States required persistence and adaptability. Arriving in New York with limited resources and little English, I relied on the discipline I developed through art. I went on to earn a BFA in Communication Design from Parsons School of Design and an MFA in New Media and Performance Art from Long Island University.
Over the past twenty years, I have worked as a fine artist, designer, and Creative Director, alongside more than twelve years of teaching experience at the college, high school, and middle school levels. I’ve founded my own studio, supported students in developing competitive college portfolios, and exhibited my artwork in New York galleries.
As an educator, I blend classical technique with contemporary digital practices, helping students build strong technical foundations while encouraging interdisciplinary thinking. My teaching centers on inclusive, student-focused learning—supporting emerging artists as they develop curiosity, confidence, and a clear personal voice.
My journey from early art training in Georgia to my professional and academic life in New York continues to guide my commitment to teaching, creativity, and lifelong learning.
