Teaching Philosophy

My teaching is grounded in the belief that strong technical foundations, critical thinking, and creative risk-taking are essential to an artist’s growth. Whether students are working in traditional painting, digital media, or hybrid forms, I aim to create a studio environment that is supportive, challenging, and open to exploration. I encourage students to engage with both established techniques and emerging technologies as they develop their own artistic voice.

My Approach

I teach by helping students build strong foundations in observation, drawing, color, and material literacy—skills that give them confidence and technical control. My approach combines classical training with contemporary digital tools, encouraging students to move fluidly between painting, film, digital illustration, and time-based media. This interdisciplinary process allows them to see painting not just as a medium, but as a flexible way of thinking and experimenting.

Critique is an essential part of my classroom. I foster a supportive, structured environment where students learn to articulate their intentions, analyze work thoughtfully, and understand their practice within broader cultural and historical contexts. Accessibility, diverse perspectives, and adaptable instruction are central to my teaching, and I encourage students to bring their own experiences and identities into their creative work.
